The Government has again hit back at comments from the GSD on the latest Business and Office of Fair Trading Annual report.

The GSD had pointed to a recently introduced property tax as a contributing factor in declining house sales.

The Government highlights that the tax came into effect on the 1st January this year – which would mean the report predates it.

The tax was announced six months earlier, but the Government says that one would have expected a surge in property transactions during that period, for anyone minded to avoid the tax.

Following a statement yesterday by Minister for Business, Gemma Arias Vasquez, today the Minister for Trade and Industry weighed in.

Nigel Feetham said Gibraltar deserves better than claims that don’t survive a basic fact check.
