Government monitoring UK plans to introduce ‘Brit Cards’ closely

The Government is monitoring UK plans to introduce ‘Brit Cards’ closely.

Under the new plans to tackle immigration, recently announced by Keir Starmer, every adult in Britain will require a digital ID.

Number Six has told GBC that if the proposal moves forward in a way that could affect Gibraltar and its people, it will make appropriate representations to UK authorities.

The Gibraltar Government says its too early to determine whether Gibraltarians would be eligible for Brit Cards but that it’s likely they could relate to residency rather than Nationality, like Gibraltar ID cards.

It’s not clear when the scheme would be introduced, however, it has already received some backlash in the UK.
