The gradual lifting of the COVID-19 restrictions will be more challenging to police than the initial full lockdown was. This is according to the Commissioner of the Royal Gibraltar Police, Ian McGrail, who spoke at Sunday's press conference at Number Six, together with Minister for Civil Contingencies, Samantha Sacramento.

The press conference followed a weekend that saw the sun shine and Main Street shops reopen, bringing many out of their homes, and leading the Government and police to issue a stern warning against complacency. The Commissioner of Police said enforcement is not the RGP's preferred option, but that it will take action if and when necessary; he said there had been close to a thousand interventions by police since the 23rd of March.

Ian McGrail also addressed issues regarding children, saying while it's important to stay safe and stay at home, it's also important to stay safe online. He advised parents to be mindful of their children's online activity, and to make them aware of the dangers involved. And, he and Samantha Sacramento addressed concerns expressed by the Stipendiary Magistrate, reported on in the Gibraltar Chronicle, over the arrests of young children for breaching civil contingency regulations - saying issues relating to vulnerable children were being looked at.

Minister for Civil Contingencies, Samantha Sacramento, announced the COVID-19 statistics for Gibraltar, which did not show any change from Saturday: there are 144 confirmed cases, with 132 of these recovered, and 12 still active.

Ms Sacramento also said devices were in place at the frontier to scan the temperature of those coming in, with a greater number of cross-frontier workers expected to cross now that more businesses have reopened on the Rock.
