Gemma Arias-Vasquez will be travelling to Geneva today to take part in an international Health Summit organised by the World Health Organisation.
Director of Public Health Dr Helen Carter will be accompanying the Health Minister to ensure Gibraltar is represented at not only a political level, but also at a technical one.
They will engage with experts on key public health issues such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and mental health. All are conditions the Government says remain among the leading cause of poor health and premature death locally.
Ms Arias Vasquez says the topics being discussed are at the core of the GHA’s Covenant for Health, scheduled to be published later this year.
Announced in last year’s budget, the Covenant is a public health ‘prevention’ initiative aimed at improving the overall well-being of the population through a collaborative approach involving government, businesses, communities, and individuals.
