A new training facility for fighting fires in enclosed structures has been procured for the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service and the Airport Fire and Rescue Service, at a cost of around £142,000.
It will replace the Maritime Fire Fighting training unit, which has been moved from the airport to the University, where it will be used to support the maritime courses delivered there.
The Government says the old unit has been used by the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service and the Airport Fire and Rescue Service for nearly two decades, but is no longer suitable for their evolving training requirements.
The new Compartment Fire Behaviour Training facility is expected in May.
The Minister with responsibility for the Fire Service, Leslie Bruzon, said this will enable firefighters to train in a purpose-built, state of the art environment without the need to travel to the UK.
