Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar has donated a specialised lateral arm machine to the GHA’s Radiology Department, aimed at improving breast biopsy procedures.

According to the GHA, the equipment will help clinicians perform biopsies with greater accuracy, particularly in more difficult cases such as lesions close to the chest wall or in women with smaller breasts.

The new technology should also make the procedure more comfortable for patients by allowing biopsies to be carried out from the side rather than directly in front, helping to reduce movement and improve precision.

Breast Cancer Support Gibraltar spokeswoman Heidi Jeffries said the donation would improve the experience of women undergoing these procedures and reflected the charity’s ongoing commitment to supporting breast healthcare services in Gibraltar.

GHA Director General Dr Paul Bosio thanked the charity and said the equipment would help clinicians target very small abnormalities more effectively and support safer, more efficient biopsies.

Health Minister Gemma Arias-Vasquez said the new equipment would make “a real difference” to patient care.
