Members of the Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Service took their protest to No.6 Convent Place again this morning as the pay dispute with Government continues.
Unite says the cost of the claim is modest and that salary figures published by Government are 'misleading' and lack important context.
Katy Docker spoke to Unite’s National Officer for Gibraltar, Stuart Davies, and asked him about the numbers released by Number Six.
GOVERNMENT RESPONSE
And the Government has accused fire-fighters of using taxpayer-funded equipment without permission and causing significant noise disruption in the area to staff and passers by.
It maintains that firefighters’ salaries are all-inclusive and already reflect the requirement to provide a 24-hour service, including night duties.
It also says GFRS staff benefit from arrangements such as night “stand-down” periods and a Continuous Professional Development payment worth more than six thousand pounds a year.
The Government argues that introducing additional night shift allowances across the public sector would cost millions of pounds.
