Plans for early works in the Westview Park reclamation project have been submitted to the DPC.
The document, published by the Government, details the demolition of Extension Jetty Number 3 - an ageing fuel berth located just North of the proposed reclamation site.
The plans reiterate the Government’s pledge to develop what it calls the ‘required social housing’.
GBC has asked who will be funding the works, including the demolition.
The Westview park reclamation was announced earlier this year. Plans showed a 47,000 square metre – an area almost half the size of the Eastside reclamation - to run alongside the Harbour Views Promenade.
At the time, the Government said the cost of creating the land would be met by TNG Global Foundation in exchange for part of the site.
The Government said it would keep the larger part of the reclamation to build affordable housing.
In August, the Chief Minister told GBC’s Direct Democracy they hoped to build 1550 residential units, but said the Government may have to carry out the project itself.
The planning document reveals the jetty removal will be carried out in eight stages.
The demolition itself will use ‘the chisel method’ – a highly specialised technique in which a 17-ton steel slab is repeatedly dropped from around 20 metres to break an object into manageable debris.
This will be collected, with concrete to be re-used as core material for rock works in the new reclamation.
A post demolition survey will then check for any remaining materials on the seabed.
