Works to demolish canopies at the frontier have started ahead of Treaty implementation.
In what were very visual changes, Spain began removing its infrastructure at the exit from Gibraltar to Spain Tuesday night.
Gibraltar has started its preparatory works with demolition expected soon.
Christine Vasquez was at the frontier.
Will it all be in place for the 15th of July - the day set for Treaty implementation?
Gibraltar has always said it will be ready and now it looks like it's all coming together.
Spain appears to have stolen a march and it was all go at the frontier last night as it started dismantling its metal infrastructure.
Anyone crossing the frontier will have noticed the scaffolding at the entrance to Gibraltar. Traffic entering and leaving the Rock is also being diverted via the Eastgate Commercial gate between 9pm and 6 in the morning.
Actual demolition works on our side are expected to start towards the end of the week with the current cement canopy at the entrance to Gibraltar coming down, together with the metallic canopy over Customs, and now over Borders and Coastguards, which has moved temporarily because of the works.
The frontier area is a hive of activity- and the same can be said for works by the airport.
Although a section of the airport giving onto Spain remains exposed, it looks like the Second Line Check Area, now dubbed the Schengen Shack, is ready, as is the extension to the building that will house Aduanas, for everyone entering Gibraltar, except Gibraltar residents.
Entry into Schengen needs to be protected once the frontier fence comes down and there are many moving parts that need to align.
With under a month to go the infrastructure is going to be the most visible but it's the political climate in the UK and Spain that will perhaps be watched the closest.
