The Area Director for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is in Gibraltar.

Gareth Hardware has been visiting Gibraltar's cemeteries and spoke to us about the importance of their up keep.

As Area Director for the War Graves Commission, Gareth Hardware covers a wide area including Scandinavian countries, as well as the UK and Gibraltar.

Inspecting graves and meeting people in those areas to learn more. He spoke to us about his role and how best to keep graves refurbished.

With the news recently of this year’s Remembrance Sunday ceremony will be returning at the Cross of Sacrifice on Winston Churchill Avenue, Gareth told us of the importance of remembering those who served.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission, founded by Royal Charter in 1917, commemorates the 1.7 million men and women from the Commonwealth who lost their lives in the two World Wars.

There are thousands of volunteers who work for the commission on graves around the world, with an idea to expand volunteer services in Gibraltar.
