McGrail Inquiry: Criticised parties given until 31 July to respond to Chairman’s findings

Individuals and organisations criticised by the McGrail Inquiry Chairman in his report have already been sent a warning letter and will have until the 31 July to reply.

Sir Peter Openshaw has now completed the first draft of his report, and is expected to deliver it to the Government in the autumn.

Sir Peter says he considers it to be an important aspect of fairness that anyone to be criticised publicly in the inquiry report has a reasonable opportunity to respond to the criticism before publication.

The process is known as Maxwellisation, and is believed to improve the quality and accuracy of reports by incorporating feedback, although it can lead to delays.
