The Leader of the Opposition, Keith Azopardi, has renewed calls for the Chief Minister to resign, describing the Openshaw Report as a watershed moment for Gibraltar’s governance.

In a New Year message, Mr Azopardi said the findings represent the culmination of what he called a serious crisis in standards of public life. He accused Fabian Picardo of attempting to interfere in a criminal investigation in a grossly improper way and rejected claims that the Government had been vindicated.

Mr Azopardi said the idea of moving on from the Report’s conclusions was unacceptable and warned that Ministers who continue to support the Chief Minister would be condoning the conduct criticised by the Inquiry.

He said a general election was now necessary to allow the public to decide Gibraltar’s future.
