CM instructs legal proceedings for Judicial Review over criticisms in McGrail Inquiry report

The Chief Minister has instructed his legal team to issue proceedings for Judicial Review in relation to findings of the McGrail Inquiry.

In a statement issued this evening, Fabian Picardo has again said he has been taking legal advice on challenging some of criticisms made of him in the Inquiry’s report into the retirement of former Commissioner of Police Ian McGrail in June 2020.

He said those criticisms are unfounded and unjustified, and that he has been firmly advised they can be challenged through the courts.

The Chief Minister confirmed the decision has been taken with the full support of the Cabinet.

He also reiterated that the legal action will be funded by the Government, in line with established guidelines.
