Seal Of Approval: Grey Seal spotted lounging in Gibraltar Harbour

Gibraltar has a surprise VIP (Very Important Pinniped) in town. A Grey Seal was spotted lounging in Gibraltar Harbour this morning, likely the same adventurous traveler seen recently along the coasts of Doñana and Conil.

Normally, Grey Seals stick to the chillier waters of Northern Europe and Eastern North America, rarely venturing this far south—so this special guest is making quite the splash!
Authorities are asking the public to give the seal plenty of space, as it's likely feeling a bit stressed from its unexpected detour.
The Department of the Environment’s Environmental Protection and Research Unit (EPRU) is keeping a close eye on the visitor, and anyone who spots it can report sightings to 58009620.

Let’s roll out the red carpet—but from a respectful distance—for this unexpected seal-ebrity!

Gib Pilots capture footage of seal interacting with vessel

And the seal was first spotted by Gib Pilots in the early hours of the morning when it came up to their vessel out in the harbour for a bit of company.

Gib Pilots are a pilotage company serving the Gibraltar port since the 1800s. They were out at sea when the seal approached them.

They captured the moment on this footage.
