The second window of the bluefin tuna season has officially come to a close, meaning it is now illegal to catch the fish in Gibraltar waters until next summer.

The Department of the Environment will be conducting inspections and patrols to ensure compliance over the coming weeks and months, with action to be taken against anyone found to be fishing illegally.

The Government reminds anglers that while tuna populations are in recovery, they remain a monitored species ,and adherence to seasonal regulations is essential in order to protect this important resource going forward.
