Airport management says it's satisfied with how a major water leak at the airport early on Saturday morning was handled.
Air Terminal Director Terence Lopez told GBC the airport was functional by midday the same day despite over 30,000 litres of water flooding parts of the terminal during unmanned overnight hours.
He told GBC the airport had not been involved in the cancellation of a BA flight and had at no point considered closure.
The incident was triggered by a burst pipe that severely damaged key infrastructure.
With minimal staff presence during the airport’s “silent hours,” the leak went undetected long enough for water to seep through ceilings and inundate public areas of the terminal.
Diversions were not an option as ground handling staff in Malaga were on Industrial action.
The airport is operating as normal, although some areas of the terminal remain off-limits while they're being cleared up.
Kevin Ruiz spoke to Air Terminal Director, Terence Lopez, who explained the response, and addressed some of the concerns on the handling of the situation.
