North Face area deemed safe after weekend rockfall

The area of Sir Herbert Miles Road below the North Face has been declared safe following rockfalls caused by heavy rain over the weekend.

Technical Services says the site continues to be closely monitored, but notes the North Face remains a challenging area for installing preventative measures.

The department’s Emile Hermida says while rockfalls cannot be completely prevented, mitigation measures are in place to improve safety for residents.

He told Kevin Ruiz that safety will be further enhanced once the road is closed to the public and rerouted through the Eastside reclamation.
