Post Treaty: Spain to route goods through three Spanish customs posts

Spain will channel all goods bound for Gibraltar through three “Designated Border Control Posts”.

One in Algeciras, another in La Línea, and a third to be newly established in either Málaga or Valencia.

The confirmation came in Brussels from Clara Martínez Alberola, Deputy Head of the EU’s UK Task Force, during a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on International Trade.

She explained that under the forthcoming UK–EU treaty, every product entering Gibraltar by land will pass through Spanish checks at designated customs posts – in Algeciras, la Linea, and a third newly created site either I Malaga or Valencia.

The site of the actual frontier itself will not serve as a Schengen control point, a detail now clearly defined with the naming of the three customs locations.

For Gibraltar’s limited exports, the treaty will require compliance with EU rules. But Brussels underlined that the agreement does not place Gibraltar inside Schengen or the Single Market, with the purpose of the Treaty it says, to remove existing checks at the frontier.

On sovereignty, the European Commission stressed again that the deal does not alter the position of either side
